About Our Mailing Lists

If you are reading this, it means you are listed as being in the cast (or are one of the directors) of any of our current productions.

Below are some general instructions and guidelines regarding our website (www.gilbertandsullivanli.com) and our mailing lists.

I try to keep the website as current as possible, as well as the rehearsal schedule (which can generally be found here).

Please make sure to read all the content on this page, and particularly the section on Etiquette, at the bottom.

About Mailing Lists in General

Mailing lists allow a group of people (called subscribers) to be sent e-mail messages "en masse." They can be powerful tools, but can be misused, so a little common sense and consideration is appropriate when dealing with mailing lists.

There are A NUMBER OF mailing lists that I maintain for the use of the company and its members. Below is a brief description of each list, along with other relevant information regarding the list.

NOTE: A "Moderated" list means that someone previews any message submitted for posting to the list. If a list is NOT moderated, the description will say if ANYONE can post to the list, or if only SUBSCRIBERS are allowed to post to the list.

Moderators: TBD

"Official" Mailing Lists

<current show>-cast@snickersnee.com (for example: pirates-cast@snickersnee.com)

Description: This list contains only those members who are in the cast of our current major offering, plus the directors, and no others. (This list is under construction.)

Moderated: YES

<revue show>-cast@snickersnee.com (for example: lggs-cast@snickersnee.com)

Description: This list contains only those members who are in the cast of our current revue show, plus any director(s)

Moderated: YES

all-cast@snickersnee.com

Description: This list contains the e-mail addresses of ALL current cast members, whether they are in the current show or revue or whatever. This list contains all members from this season as well as the previous season

Moderated: YES

NOTE: The three lists shown above are for "official" use only, and not to be used in a frivolous manner. (See below for examples of what I mean by "frivolous.")

You MAY submit messages to any of the above lists IF YOU THINK THEY ARE OF GENERAL INTEREST to that particular set of cast members.

APPROPRIATE SUBMISSIONS INCLUDE:

  • Announcements of shows you are in (although FaceBook may be better for this)
  • Events that may be of interest to all (Walk-a-thons or other "good works" to which you may ask people to subscribe, contribute or support in some way)

INAPPROPRIATE SUBMISSIONS INCLUDE:

  • Christmas, Hannukah, Birthday or other "cards" of any type.
  • Personal messages to anyone else on the list
  • Advertisements of any nature
  • Invitations to others to friend you on Facebook, follow you on Twitter or the like

"General Interest" and Other Mailing Lists

gaslocoli-general@snickersnee.com

Description: This list contains the e-mail addresses of people to whom we send listings regarding our upcoming shows and events, and comprises over 220 e-mail addresses. You may make judicious use of this list to send e-mails of greater general interest, and anyone can post to this list. However, all postings to this list are moderated by me, and I am the final arbiter as to what is acceptable use of this list.

Moderated: YES

gasboard@snickersnee.com

Description: This list is for the use of the executive board only.

Moderated: NO. However, only subscribers (and ALLOWED addresses) can post to the list.

gasplus@snickersnee.com

Description: This list is for the use of the executive board only. In addition to the board members, the directors, corporate counsel and a few other select individuals are included on this list.

Moderated: NO. Only subscribers (and ALLOWED addresses) can post to the list.

MAILING LIST ETIQUETTE

Please think before you post and post responsibly.

In my opinion, responsible posts include such items as letting people know about an upcoming show, fund-raising event, walkathon, etc., in which you will be participating; birth announcements or congratulatory messages, etc. I'm sure you can think of more, but use your common sense and don't send links to websites that people might find offensive.

When you receive a message from any of the mailing lists, you have two (general) choices if you decide to reply:

a) Reply to the sender (recommended in general):

When you receive the message, use your e-mail program's "Reply" facility and the reply will be sent only to the sender. This is usually the right choice, unless you really want to include everyone in the conversation. Many people resent being included in e-mail "conversations" that have nothing to do with them.

b) Reply to the list (Reply-All, not recommended for most messages):

When you receive the message, use your e-mail program's "Reply All" function and the reply will be sent to the entire list. Please use this with caution, as you don't generally need to reply to the entire list, and some people would rather not see messages that are not intended for them. This choice is not, generally, recommended.

If you have any questions about any of this, please feel free to contact me at atz@gomad.org or speak to me in person or on the phone (my contact info is somewhere on our website).
