| Andrew Schwartz (Sir Joseph Porter, K.C.B.) Andy is overjoyed to play Sir Joseph in our current production of H.M.S. Pinafore. He joined the Company in 2003 when he portrayed Pish-Tush in that season's production of The Mikado. He has variously played Lord Mountararat in 2004's Iolanthe, King Gama in 2006-2007's Princess Ida and The Duke of Plaza-Toro in the 2005-2006 production of The Gondoliers. He also played Lewis Carroll in the 50th anniversary production of Very Truly Yours, Gilbert & Sullivan, and plays Bouncer in the Cox and Box segment of Ladies & Gentlemen, Gilbert & Sullivan.
Andy has been an inveterate lover of the Savoy operas since being introduced to them as a small child, and has previously played Dick Deadeye in H.M.S. Pinafore and the Sergeant in The Pirates of Penzance. He currently sings with the choir of St. James United Methodist Church in Lynbrook, and lists among his other musical accomplishments the ability to play the recorder (all voices), the guitar and the BBb tuba. He studied recorder, voice and the lute while at the Institute for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at CCNY, but that was many years ago, when he was young but alas, not very charming. Andy is serving concurrent sentences as both the Company's president and webmaster. He was also tempted to use the word "invertebrate" in the second paragraph, above. |
