Cassandra Lems (Little Buttercup/Chorus) Cassandra first joined the Company in 2003 as an Aesthetic Lady in Patience. She has since appeared in Very Truly Yours, Gilbert & Sullivan, as Fleta in Iolanthe, as Chloe in Princess Ida, and in the chorus of The Mikado. She has played the roles of the Duchess of Plaza-Toro in The Gondoliers and Queen Altemire in the Company's staged reading of W.S. Gilbert's The Palace of Truth. She has attempted to channel both of those characters, as well as those portrayed by the late Margaret Dumont, in creating the role of Mrs. Autoban in the Company's Radio Nights fundraisers. Cassandra has been singing with the Mineola Choral Society since 1998. Before that, she performed with the Washington-based women's vocal quartet Seraphim, the Thomas Circle Singers and the theater group Hexagon. She lives in New Hyde Park and works as a patent and trademark administrator. Cassandra grew up in the suburbs of Baltimore, Maryland, where she first heard the melody of "I'm Called Little Buttercup" used as a radio jingle for Mary Sue Easter Eggs. Only much later did she find out there are other lyrics. |
